There are so many different breeds of sheespkins to choose from and each are all different and unique with their own characterstics and beauty but in this blog I wanted to focus on the Merino Sheespkin. Being Australian, Us Aussies love our Merino sheepskin, it is what our famous ugg boots and slippers are made from, in a shaven fleece of course.
Merino Sheepskin naturally has a soft shaggy long coat that is not only luxurious but also breathable, easy care and hypoallergenic. This amazing natural fibre sourced from the finest of Australian and New Zealand Sheepskins are insulators in the Winter but also have cooling properties for the warmer months making them the most versatile and easy care woolen fleece for every day living. Merino Sheepskins are a generous size hide making them a great floor rug in small spaces but lets not overlook that these hides are stunning to throw over a sofa, an ottoman or to drape over a chair or bench to add interest and softness with touches of luxury.
There are so many ways to accesorise a decor using a Merino hide so I thought I would go though a few styling ideas, features and tips that others have done.
Dulux paint has styled one of their interiors using a natural white merino single hide draped over a contemporary brown leather chair. I love leather but I do find it to be cold. This room is a perfect demonstration, showing how easy it is to style and add warmth, and character to a simple and casual decor. Like I mentioned before I find leather to be a little cold but in this decor that sheepskin throw has added a soft contrast against the brown, and it is successfully added textural warmth making that chair more inviting.
I am absolutely in love with this dining room from Sydney Interior Designer D'Cruz Design. The row of three Merino sheepskins draped over those divine dining chairs are balanced with the back drop of artwork. A Contemporary interior with simple lines and neutral pallet complimented with the contrast of soft and fluffy textures found in the Merino sheepskins. The luxurious white fleece comes to life and is inviting in this decor as it picks up all the other white finishes in the room. D'Cruz what a room, well done!!!
Children love texture they respond to softness, and I don't blame them as soft textures are comforting and cudly. I love this new design concept of having a reading corner in a childs bedroom. Creating for them a little space where they can relax to read and unwind with soft colours, pretty prints and fluffy textures all combined and styled under these amazing tents. To create that perfect little haven this designer has added two individual merino hides and placed them floor rugs to add extra softness to those amazing cushions.

Once upon a time many years ago I was styling a nursery for my baby girl and I do so remeber it being joyful and exciting time. I had Pretty little pink lambs, inspired by the Nursery ryhme, Mary had a little lamb. My Mother gave me an old merino sheepskin hide that she kept from when I was a little girl to add as a floor rug that I placed beside the cot. I loved the way my toes would curl into the fleece it was so beautiful to feel and so soft under my feet. With this luxurious feel below my feet I decided to buy a new hide just for my baby girl that she would lay on in her earlier months and enjoy the the same softness against her little body. I am over 40 years of age now so I guess much hasn't changed since I was a little girl to now, as the humble and classic Merino sheepskin was, is andalways will be a strong styler for nurseries. The merino wool has amazing properties that is suitable for babies and toddlers that can not be ignored but rather has been embraced by generations. It is warm in the winter and yet ironically it has cooling properties in the summer, which is perfect for a babies. Our hides at ELuxury are classifed hypoallergenic and are easy to clean especially with little accidents that can occur with babies. These beautiful hides can be hand crafted into larger area rugs that look amazing in nurseries as they add softness and charm also as shown below.
